Product Name
Human IGF-1 ELISA Kit PicoKine®
SKU/Catalog Number
EK0376
Size
96 wells/kit, with removable strips.
*Question: How many samples can I assay/run in this kit?
Description
IGF signaling (putative; PI3K/AKT, MAPK); roles in growth and metabolic regulation (putative). Clinical use (putative): assess growth disorders/anabolic status; kit measures free IGF-1 per on-page Q&A. Assay context: sandwich ELISA for human serum/plasma (heparin/EDTA) and supernatants; sensitivity ~50 pg/mL; range 156–10,000 pg/mL; no detectable cross-reactivity with IGF-2 (from product page). May be analyzed with IL-6 to explore immune–metabolic crosstalk (putative).
Storage & Handling
Store at 4°C for 6 months, at -20°C for 12 months. Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles (Ships with gel ice, can store for up to 3 days in room temperature. Freeze upon receiving.)

Background of IGF1
Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), also called somatomedin C, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IGF1 gene. It is mapped to 12q23.2. The protein encoded by this gene is similar to insulin in function and structure and is a member of a family of proteins involved in mediating growth and development. The encoded protein is processed from a precursor, bound by a specific receptor, and secreted. Defects in this gene are a cause of insulin-like growth factor I deficiency. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms that may undergo similar processing to generate mature protein.

Question
Would it would work with their bear samples?

Answer
The animal species trying to measure IGF1 concentrations is the Asiatic black bear (Ursus thibetanus Japonicus), and the exact protein sequencing has not been reported. In the case of closely related species, brown and polar bears have genomic information available to the public.
