QuicKey Pro Chicken CORT (Corticosterone) ELISA Kit

This ELISA kit uses the Competitive-ELISA principle. The micro ELISA plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with Chicken Cort. Samples (or Standards) and Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) linked antibody specific for Chicken Cort are added to the micro ELISA plate wells. Chicken Cort in samples (or standards) competes with a fixed amount of Cort on the solid phase supporter for sites on the HRP linked detection antibody specific to Cort. Excess conjugate and unbound sample or standard are washed from the plate. The substrate solution is added to each well. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of stop solution and the color turns yellow. The optical density (OD) is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450±2 nm. The concentration of Chicken Cort in the samples is then determined by comparing the OD of the samples to the standard curve.

Corticosterone is an endogenous steroid hormone produced in the adrenal cortex and can also be called 17-Deoxycortisol, 11β,21-Dihydroxyprogesterone or Kendall's compound B. Corticosterone binds to glucocorticoid and salocorticoid receptors and is the precursor of aldosterone synthesis. Since increased production of glucocorticoids is often associated with stress, corticosterone is commonly used as a biomarker of stress. At the same time, plasma corticosterone levels have circadian variations and may play an important role in regulating sleep-wake cycles.
