Anti-Collagen IV CE/IVD for IHC - Dermopathology

Anti-Collagen IV CE/IVD for IHC - Dermopathology

Anti-Collagen IV CE/IVD antibodies are validated immunohistochemistry reagents designed for the detection of type IV collagen, a major structural component of basement membranes within the skin. In dermatopathology, Collagen IV immunostaining provides valuable information regarding basement membrane integrity, localization of dermoepidermal cleavage, and characterization of selected cutaneous neoplasms and stromal alterations.

Biological Significance of Collagen IV

Collagen IV is the major collagenous constituent of the lamina densa of the basement membrane at the dermal–epidermal junction. Unlike fibrillar collagens, it forms a specialized sheet-like supramolecular network that provides structural support and contributes to cell adhesion, migration, differentiation, and tissue compartmentalization. Collagen IV interacts with laminins, nidogens, and heparan sulfate proteoglycans to maintain basement membrane architecture and skin homeostasis. The molecule is also present in vascular, adnexal, neural, and Schwann cell basement membranes throughout the skin.

Diagnostic Utility of Collagen IV in Dermatopathology

  • Identification of the basement membrane zone in routine formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded skin biopsies.
  • Determination of the level of cleavage relative to the lamina densa in subepidermal blistering disorders, providing supportive information in the diagnostic evaluation of autoimmune blistering diseases.
  • Assessment of basement membrane preservation or disruption in inflammatory and neoplastic skin lesions.
  • Characterization of basement membrane material surrounding adnexal structures, blood vessels, and peripheral nerve sheath tumors.

Key Features of Collagen IV CE/IVD Antibodies

  • CE/IVD validated for diagnostic immunohistochemistry applications.
  • Optimized for formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues.
  • Produces a distinct linear basement membrane staining pattern with minimal background staining.
  • Compatible with automated and manual IHC staining platforms.
  • Designed to provide robust staining performance, reproducible results, and preservation of histomorphological context during interpretation.
